Alternate Search Sources

In addition to Google, consider searching for what you need with other resources. Ask.com or msn.com are a couple quality search engines for alternative searches for what you are looking for.

If you are looking for something in a specific category, such as for search engine optimizations firms, travel over to dmoz.org, a human edited directory known as the Open Directory Project which has a business most utilized search resource - but they are not the only game in town.

Google Stop Words

There are certain words which are too common to normally be of use in a keyword search. They add no focus and generally exist for grammatical purposes - not definition reasons or to improve database content. They are usually ignored by the search engines, both in a query, and also when indexing a page. This applies both to text or tag usage.

Stopwords are language specific. Search engines filter out these words to reduce the size of indexing files and also to eliminate normal searching which includes words typically found on nearly all documents.

There is a way to force the search engines to recognize a stop word. By placing a plus sign ( + ) immediately in front of a stop word - the search engine will include the stop word in indexing the page or in making the search.

A second way to force the inclusion of a stop word is by performing an exact search. For example, a search for "the blob" - that old Steve McQueen flick would be made for that exact title. Both words would be required to be on the candidate documents in that exact order and adjacent to each other.

On the next page are the primary words that Google considers to be stop words.
